Takeda, a global biopharmaceutical leader with a 244-year history in rare diseases, oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and vaccine development, is extending its commitment to sustainability and social innovation through a new initiative in Türkiye. As part of its mission to support inclusive, tech-driven healthcare, Takeda Türkiye has launched the “STEM Kızlara İyi Gelecek” (STEM Will Be Good for Girls) project, targeting teenage girls across the country.
The program aims to bridge the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields by equipping girls aged 13 to 18 with practical digital skills and mentorship. Developed in partnership with SistersLab – Women in Science and Technology Association, this initiative will deliver 43 hours of free STEM-focused training to high school girls throughout Türkiye.

STEM for Inclusion, Innovation, and Impact
The project offers an expansive curriculum covering 17 thematic areas, from coding and graphic design to artificial intelligence and game development. Beyond skill-building, the initiative places a strong emphasis on gender equality, encouraging girls to confidently pursue careers in traditionally male-dominated fields.
Takeda Türkiye’s General Manager Nura Aykanat highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating:
“Globally, female representation in STEM remains below 30% as of 2024. This figure underscores the urgency to empower girls in these fields. In alignment with our vision of a ‘Healthier, Brighter Future,’ this project is a step toward building a more equitable and sustainable society. As a technology-driven biopharma company, we believe this initiative will help young women take bold steps in STEM. Our goal is to reach 2,000 girls over the next two years and inspire them to discover their true potential.”
Free Nationwide Access and Certification
Offered completely free of charge by SistersLab’s expert instructors, the program is open to all female high school students across Türkiye. Upon successful completion, participants will receive an official certificate of participation, which could bolster their university applications or future STEM-related opportunities.
Applications are currently open and will close on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Students can apply via the official registration form or through SistersLab’s social media channels.
A Broader Mission of Equality and Innovation
This isn’t Takeda Türkiye’s first foray into inclusive innovation. The company has previously supported projects related to sustainable healthcare delivery, cross-sector collaborations, and biotech-driven solutions tailored for Türkiye’s unique health challenges. The new initiative aligns with Takeda’s broader global goals, which include environmental responsibility, equitable access to health, and tech-enhanced education.
By placing young women at the center of a tech-forward educational initiative, “STEM Kızlara İyi Gelecek” not only addresses gender disparities but also creates a pipeline of future talent capable of leading Türkiye’s innovation agenda.

Who Should Apply?
High school girls (ages 13–18) interested in science, coding, engineering, or technology

Why It Matters
In an era where AI, data science, and biotechnology are rapidly shaping the future, empowering young women to take part in this transformation is not just beneficial—it’s essential. Initiatives like this help ensure that Türkiye doesn’t just consume global innovation but actively contributes to it with a diverse and skilled workforce.
By supporting this project, Takeda and SistersLab are making a tangible investment in Türkiye’s youth—and in the future of scientific and technological leadership.
