In a heartfelt gesture that blended civic appreciation with environmental awareness, students from the Tekirdağ Youth Center recently visited forest workers stationed in Kumbağ, a district of Süleymanpaşa, to personally thank them for their tireless efforts in combating wildfires.
During the event, the students read aloud emotional letters they had written to express their gratitude to the firefighters—many of whom have worked long, sleepless hours in dangerous conditions to protect Türkiye’s forests, wildlife, and communities.

A Morning of Reflection and Gratitude
As part of the event, the students and forest personnel gathered for a communal breakfast before the letters were presented. What followed was a moving exchange of words and emotions.
One of the students, Aybüke Hüma Canik, delivered a message that deeply touched those present:
“If not for your efforts, many animals would be homeless, and nature might fall silent. Your dedication gives us hope. Please take care of yourselves—we are always by your side.”
Another student, Emine Nur Çömlek, highlighted the immense value of the forest workers’ courage, noting that they risk their lives to protect the environment. Her words underscored the selflessness and sacrifice involved in their duties.

A Moment to Acknowledge Unsung Heroes
This youth-led initiative reflects a growing consciousness among Türkiye’s younger generations about environmental protection and the human effort it requires. Forest workers—often operating in extreme heat, rugged terrain, and high-risk scenarios—are rarely in the spotlight despite the critical nature of their work.
By taking the time to write personal letters and share them face-to-face, the students not only showed empathy and respect but also inspired conversations about sustainability and communal responsibility.
Forest Workers Moved by the Gesture
At the conclusion of the event, the hand-written letters were formally given to the forest personnel. Touched by the students’ kindness and sincerity, the workers expressed their appreciation and answered questions about wildfire response, forest preservation, and the challenges they face on the ground.
The gathering ended on a hopeful note, reinforcing the bond between those who protect nature and the young people committed to supporting them.
Education Meets Environmental Activism
This initiative by Tekirdağ Youth Center serves as a powerful example of how community engagement and youth programs can foster environmental awareness and civic responsibility. Organizers hope such events will continue to instill a sense of gratitude, consciousness, and action in young minds across the country.
