Hakkari is taking bold steps to diversify its tourism offerings and promote aviation sports with the launch of a paragliding training program. The Hakkari Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports announced that the training sessions are being held at the scenic Merga Bütan Ski Center, a location already known for its winter sports potential.
The initiative, conducted by instructors from the Yüksekova Aviation Academy, provides participants with hands-on experience in a thrilling new sport while introducing a fresh dimension to the region’s tourism sector. The program is designed not only to equip athletes with new skills but also to highlight Hakkari’s suitability for adventure and nature-based tourism year-round.

Expanding Hakkari’s Role in Outdoor and Aviation Sports
Officials from the Directorate emphasized that the paragliding training is just the beginning of a broader effort to develop aviation-related activities in the area. With its unique mountainous terrain, open skies, and breathtaking natural landscapes, Hakkari has the potential to become a hub for outdoor sports enthusiasts and adventure travelers.
They also underlined that such programs contribute to the local economy by attracting both domestic and international visitors, creating opportunities for hospitality, guiding services, and sports tourism businesses.

A New Chapter for Regional Tourism
By adding paragliding to its portfolio of sports activities, Hakkari is seeking to rebrand itself as a destination for adrenaline seekers. The Merga Bütan Ski Center, already popular among winter tourists, could now become a year-round attraction, drawing visitors during the warmer months for air sports.
Authorities confirmed that aviation sports events and training will continue in the future, signaling a long-term commitment to positioning Hakkari as a prominent player in Türkiye’s nature and adventure tourism scene.
