Each year, the international military publication Defense News releases its prestigious Top 100 ranking based on the previous year’s defense revenues. The latest edition once again confirmed the steady rise of Turkish defense companies, which managed not only to maintain their positions but in some cases climb to new heights in the global market.

ASELSAN, TUSAŞ, Roketsan, ASFAT, and MKE were among the Turkish representatives featured in the list, showcasing the resilience and growing competitiveness of Türkiye’s defense sector. Their inclusion reflects the country’s strategic focus on innovation, technological independence, and the export potential of its defense industry.

ASELSAN Leads Turkish Entries

At the forefront of the Turkish delegation stood ASELSAN, which secured the 43rd position with defense revenues amounting to 3.54 billion dollars. Although the company dropped slightly compared to the previous year’s 42nd rank, it continues to dominate the Turkish defense landscape and remains one of the most influential electronics and defense technology manufacturers worldwide.

ASELSAN’s diverse portfolio includes radar systems, communication technologies, electro-optics, and command-control solutions. Its ability to provide cutting-edge systems not only for Türkiye’s armed forces but also for international partners has been a major factor in maintaining its strong global standing.

TUSAŞ Climbs Higher

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), also known internationally as Turkish Aerospace, climbed from the 50th to the 47th position. This progress highlights the company’s growing reputation in global aviation and aerospace markets.

TUSAŞ has been expanding its capabilities in aircraft manufacturing, UAV development, satellite technologies, and helicopter production. The company’s contributions to national projects such as the KAAN fighter jet and the Hürjet trainer jet have positioned it as a strategic asset for Türkiye’s defense autonomy. Its advancements also reflect Türkiye’s ambition to be recognized as a leading aerospace power.

Roketsan and the Stability Factor

Roketsan maintained its 71st place in the rankings, underlining its consistency in missile and rocket production. Known for systems such as the SOM cruise missile and various guided munitions, Roketsan has become a trusted partner not only within Türkiye but also in export markets.

Its ability to stabilize its performance despite global competition indicates both resilience and reliability. Roketsan’s steady presence demonstrates the importance of long-term strategy and continuous product innovation in sustaining global recognition.

ASFAT’s Impressive Leap

Perhaps the most striking Turkish performance came from ASFAT, which climbed 16 positions, moving from 94th to 78th place. This sharp rise underscores the company’s ability to deliver innovative solutions in defense services and project management.

ASFAT, which operates under the Ministry of National Defense, specializes in shipbuilding, modernization, and defense logistics. Its rapid advancement in the global rankings signals both market expansion and growing recognition of Türkiye’s naval capabilities.

MKE Strengthens Its Position

Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi (MKE), another key player in Türkiye’s defense ecosystem, improved its ranking from 84th to 80th. As a long-established manufacturer of weapons, ammunition, and defense equipment, MKE has been investing in modernization efforts to remain competitive in the global market.

Its rising position highlights how traditional state-owned enterprises can adapt and evolve in a rapidly changing defense industry.

Global Landscape of Defense News Top 100

While Türkiye’s companies made notable progress, the global defense industry continues to be dominated by giants from the United States. Six of the top ten companies originated from the US, reaffirming the country’s technological and industrial supremacy in the defense sector.

Lockheed Martin retained its place at the top, generating 68.39 billion dollars in defense revenues. RTX, another US-based defense powerhouse, followed closely, while China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) secured the third spot.

Northrop Grumman ranked fourth, General Dynamics fifth, and the UK’s BAE Systems came in sixth. Boeing, another American aerospace giant, held the seventh place. China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited reached eighth, L3Harris Technologies ninth, and France’s Thales rounded out the top ten.

Regional Distribution of Defense Power

The rankings also shed light on the geographic distribution of global defense industry players. The United States had the largest representation with 48 companies. The United Kingdom contributed six, while Türkiye, France, and China each placed five companies on the list. Germany had four entries, and South Korea and Israel each had three representatives.

This distribution reflects the shifting dynamics of the global defense sector, where new players from Asia and the Middle East are gradually increasing their visibility, while traditional defense hubs in North America and Europe maintain dominance.

Türkiye’s Strategic Vision in Defense

The performance of Turkish companies in the Defense News Top 100 is not merely about financial revenues; it also mirrors Türkiye’s long-term strategic vision. Over the past two decades, the country has prioritized reducing foreign dependency in critical defense technologies, investing heavily in research and development, and fostering a strong ecosystem of private and state-owned enterprises.

Türkiye’s defense exports have grown significantly, reaching new markets in Asia, Africa, and South America. This expansion has strengthened diplomatic ties, as defense cooperation often leads to deeper political and economic partnerships. The achievements of ASELSAN, TUSAŞ, Roketsan, ASFAT, and MKE are part of this broader narrative of national independence and global recognition.

Challenges and Future Outlook

Despite the progress, Turkish defense companies continue to face challenges in competing with global giants that have larger budgets, wider customer bases, and decades of established influence. Export restrictions, global competition, and the need for sustained innovation remain key hurdles.

However, Türkiye’s defense sector is characterized by adaptability and determination. The development of indigenous fighter jets, UAVs, and naval platforms signals that Turkish firms are committed to long-term innovation. Their presence in the Defense News Top 100 is not only a reflection of current revenues but also a sign of their future potential.

Editorial Note

The resilience of Türkiye’s defense industry and the steady rise of its companies in global rankings illustrate a broader shift in the balance of technological power. While American and Chinese giants continue to dominate, Türkiye’s consistent progress shows how strategic investments and national will can reshape the global defense map.
