At the Embassy of Indonesia in Ankara, a vibrant reception was held to mark Indonesia’s Independence Day, bringing into focus the long-standing friendship and growing strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Türkiye. The event gathered high-ranking officials, diplomats, and cultural figures, creating an atmosphere that celebrated not only national pride but also the deep ties that unite the two nations.
Among the distinguished guests were Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States Binali Yıldırım, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, Türkiye–Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Group Chairwoman and AK Party Kayseri Deputy Ayşe Böhürler, TAIS General Manager Doğan Beşcan, Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno, as well as numerous diplomatic mission representatives. The ceremony began with traditional dance performances from both countries, followed by the national anthems of Indonesia and Türkiye.

Shared History and Milestones
In his address, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Ankara, Achmad Rizal Purnama, highlighted the significance of celebrating two milestones simultaneously – the 75th anniversary of Indonesia–Türkiye diplomatic relations and the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence. He stressed that the partnership between the two nations has been built not only on diplomacy but also on trust, solidarity, and humanitarian support during difficult times.
Purnama reminded attendees that Türkiye was among the first nations to assist Indonesia following the devastating tsunami in 2004, helping to establish the “Turkish Village” in Aceh. In return, Indonesia stood firmly beside Türkiye during the 2023 earthquakes, constructing the “Indonesian Village” in Hatay as a gesture of brotherhood.
Expanding Strategic Cooperation
Ambassador Purnama underlined that today, Indonesia–Türkiye relations are stronger than ever. Guided by the leadership of both presidents, the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council provides a comprehensive framework for bilateral mechanisms across all strategic sectors, including foreign affairs, defense, industry, energy, health, and education.
Defense collaboration was highlighted with projects involving TAIS Shipyards, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), ROKETSAN, and BAYKAR. Beyond defense, the two countries are also advancing joint initiatives in healthcare, infrastructure development, and energy.
The Ambassador emphasized the mutual goal of achieving 10 billion USD in trade volume, calling for the removal of existing barriers to reach this ambitious target.
Shared Values and Global Role
Both nations, Purnama noted, are the largest Muslim-majority countries in their respective regions and play prominent roles as leaders of the Global South. This shared identity strengthens their ability to advocate for justice and peace on the world stage.
Addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Purnama firmly stated that the genocide must come to an end and reiterated that a two-state solution is the only viable path forward. He envisioned that by the centenary of Indonesia–Türkiye partnership in 2050, the two nations would celebrate in a world defined by peace, justice, and opportunities for all.

A Cultural and Diplomatic Celebration
The reception was not only about politics and economics but also about showcasing the rich cultures of Indonesia and Türkiye. Guests were treated to performances of traditional dances and later enjoyed a variety of regional cuisines, reflecting the harmony and cultural exchange between the two peoples.
As the evening drew to a close, the celebration left a strong impression of unity, resilience, and shared purpose, symbolizing how deeply rooted and multifaceted Indonesia–Türkiye relations have become over the decades.
The message of the night was clear – the friendship between Indonesia and Türkiye is not only a matter of history but a living, evolving partnership that will continue to shape regional and global dynamics in the years ahead.
