Türkiye is set to witness one of its most dynamic rowing events this summer as the Beach Sprint Türkiye Cup, organized by the Turkish Rowing Federation, takes place in Çanakkale from August 1 to 3. Bringing together nearly 250 athletes from across the country, the event promises high-speed action on both land and water in the unique and fast-growing coastal rowing discipline.
According to the official statement from the federation, the competition will feature male, female, and mixed teams, competing in Under-19 and Senior age categories. Events will be held in both single sculls (1x) and double sculls (2x) formats.

Beach Sprint Format – A Thrilling Rowing Experience
Unlike traditional rowing formats, beach sprint racing is designed for speed and excitement. Each race begins with athletes sprinting from the shore to their boats, launching into the water and rowing a 500-meter zig-zag course. After completing the rowing segment, they return to shore and finish the race with a final sprint to the finish line.
This physically demanding and visually captivating format is growing in popularity worldwide and was recently added to the World Rowing coastal competitions calendar. The format’s inclusion in Türkiye reflects the country’s growing investment in international-standard rowing disciplines.
Three Days of Competitive Racing
The Beach Sprint Türkiye Cup will unfold over three days:
August 1 – Qualification Heats
August 2 – Quarterfinal Rounds
August 3 – Semifinals and Grand Finals
All races will take place along the scenic Çanakkale coastline, offering spectators a close-up view of each stage — from the explosive beach start to the strategic turns on water and the adrenaline-filled footrace to the finish.
Strong National Participation Expected
Nearly 20 rowing clubs from across Türkiye are expected to participate, with athletes competing for national titles and personal bests. The event will also serve as a development platform for young rowers, particularly in the Under-19 category, where rising talent can gain experience in international race formats.
The competition is also viewed as a preparatory stage for future international coastal rowing events, where Türkiye aims to field strong and competitive teams.

Çanakkale – A Historic and Strategic Location
Hosting the event in Çanakkale adds a layer of symbolic and geographic significance. Situated where the Aegean meets the Marmara, Çanakkale is steeped in maritime history and offers ideal conditions for rowing events — calm waters, accessible beaches, and strong local community support.
With a rich cultural backdrop and beautiful coastal landscapes, the city provides a perfect setting for both athletes and spectators to enjoy world-class racing and regional hospitality.
A Milestone for Turkish Rowing
The Turkish Rowing Federation’s efforts to expand coastal rowing reflect a strategic vision to diversify rowing disciplines and attract younger audiences. By organizing high-energy formats like beach sprint, the federation aims to make rowing more visible, dynamic, and inclusive.
The Beach Sprint Türkiye Cup is expected to raise the profile of rowing in the country, especially among youth and spectators unfamiliar with traditional rowing. The event’s open beach format also encourages public engagement and allows fans to cheer for their teams up close.
