The Turkish indie game scene takes a bold new step forward with the official reveal of Pera Coda, a narrative-driven, isometric adventure game created by local studio Elyzio. First introduced at a developer showcase in Istanbul, this emotionally rich title promises to captivate players with its neo-noir atmosphere, mind-bending puzzles, and a haunting reimagining of one of the world’s most iconic cities. The announcement has already generated buzz among fans and critics alike, marking Pera Coda as one of the most promising releases in the Türkiye Oyun Sektörü 2025.

Blending the psychological depth of Disco Elysium with the exploratory elegance of Outer Wilds, Pera Coda offers something rare: a journey that is equal parts introspective, philosophical, and profoundly local. It’s not just a game—it’s a love letter to Istanbul.

A Glimpse into the Story

At the center of Pera Coda lies Deniz, a troubled lawyer caught between life and death, forced to confront his guilt, regrets, and unresolved past. Trapped in a liminal world resembling Araf—the space between the living and the dead—players will guide Deniz as he relives fragmented memories and unravels complex mysteries.

Each loop through this existential purgatory peels back layers of Deniz’s soul, revealing not just who he is, but why he’s here. It’s a game about reconciliation, grief, and the search for peace, wrapped in noir tones and surreal landscapes.

Gameplay Mechanics

Pera Coda builds its gameplay around meaningful player choices. Through intricate dialogue trees, players influence Deniz’s fate and reshape the narrative path. Each decision matters—some may unlock deeper truths, while others could permanently alter the game world.

Environmental Puzzles

Instead of traditional combat or stealth mechanics, the game challenges players with environmental puzzles. These moments are designed to mirror Deniz’s internal struggles: forgotten keys, unsolved locks, ambiguous symbols. Solving them offers both progress and emotional revelations.

A Surreal Take on Istanbul

The most striking element of Pera Coda is its visual presentation. Rendered in a painterly isometric style, the game’s environments transform real-world Istanbul landmarks into abstract, dreamlike scenes. From neon-lit alleys in Pera to ghostly versions of familiar city squares, the city becomes both a stage and a symbol.

According to Art Director Ahmet Kazancı, “Pera Coda is both a tribute and a mirror. Istanbul is more than a setting—it is a character, a source of memory and mystery.” That vision is clearly visible in every frame of the announcement trailer, where shadowy figures and soft jazz scores melt into foggy cityscapes.

From Architecture to Adventure

This story began with three architecture students from Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ), who sought to capture their city’s beauty and melancholy through an interactive medium. After uploading early concept videos on social media, they gained traction within the indie community and eventually teamed up with Elyzio, a Turkish development and publishing studio.

Their shared goal? To create a game that speaks not only to gamers, but to citizens of Istanbul and beyond. With Pera Coda, they aim to put Turkish narrative design on the global map.

Between Dreams and Memory

Pera Coda’s environments are more than backdrops; they’re part of the story. Each building, streetlight, and reflection in a puddle is layered with thematic purpose. The color palette leans into cool blues, purples, and pinks, punctuated by dramatic lighting and surreal textures.

Notable Features:

  • Stylized Isometric Camera: Encourages players to observe carefully and reflect.

  • Neon-Washed Streets and Shadowy Courtyards: Create a cinematic noir mood.

  • Real-World Locations, Reimagined: Players will explore stylized versions of Pera, Galata, and other districts.

Easy to Learn, Hard to Forget

Unlike many adventure games that get bogged down in complex mechanics, Pera Coda focuses on accessibility and flow. The point & click interface allows players to easily navigate the world, interact with objects, and converse with characters.

There’s no combat, no inventory micromanagement, and no grinding—just a steady rhythm of exploration, decision-making, and storytelling. This simplicity makes it ideal for players who value atmosphere and emotion over action.

Not Just Another Indie Game

Gamers may find echoes of several well-known titles in Pera Coda—but it stands on its own. Like Disco Elysium, it digs deep into the psyche of its protagonist. Like Outer Wilds, it treats exploration as an emotional experience. And like Kentucky Route Zero, it uses surrealism to interrogate human truths.

However, its Istanbul setting, deeply rooted cultural references, and language of grief and guilt make it unmistakably original.

Community and Release Plans

Pera Coda will be released on Steam, with additional support for localization in multiple languages. The developers are actively engaging with players through Discord, Reddit, and social media channels like Instagram, X (Twitter), and YouTube.

The community is already growing, with fans drawn to its unique tone, visual beauty, and emotionally resonant themes. A demo version is expected to be showcased at upcoming events related to the [Şehir] oyun fuarı, strengthening its place in the evolving Türkiye Oyun Sektörü 2025.

A Haunting and Human Tale

Pera Coda is shaping up to be one of the most significant indie releases in recent memory—not just from Turkey, but globally. By choosing to tell a personal, reflective story grounded in real emotions and cultural identity, the game sets a new benchmark for interactive storytelling.

If you’re tired of bloated AAA formulas and looking for a game that speaks to the soul rather than the trigger finger, Pera Coda might be exactly what you’ve been waiting for.
