In a high-level diplomatic and sectoral meeting held in Ankara, Türkiye and Venezuela took an important step toward strengthening their collaboration in health tourism, medical technology, and sustainable economic development. Hosted by Prof. Dr. Aysun Bay, President of the Health Tourism Confederation (SATKOF), the event welcomed Venezuela’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Freddy Eduardo Molina Gutierrez, and his accompanying delegation for official talks.
The gathering not only underscored Türkiye’s rapidly expanding influence in global health tourism but also laid the foundation for bilateral initiatives between the two nations.

Setting the Stage for a Strategic Health Partnership
Held at SATKOF headquarters in Ankara, the meeting served as a platform for Turkish health and medical export companies to present their capabilities in key areas such as digital health, strategic communication, sustainable production, and international health commerce.
In her opening remarks, SATKOF President Prof. Dr. Aysun Bay emphasized Türkiye’s remarkable achievements in the health sector, stating:
“With our advanced digital infrastructure, highly skilled workforce, and patient-centered service model, Türkiye has emerged as one of the world’s leading centers for health tourism.”
Her comments highlighted how Türkiye’s blend of innovation, accessibility, and quality has made it an attractive destination for international patients seeking affordable, world-class healthcare.
Technology, Humanity, and Trade
Following the presentations, Ambassador Gutierrez praised Türkiye not only for its healthcare success but also for its vision of knowledge-based sustainable development. He emphasized Venezuela’s holistic approach to health tourism, which he described as incorporating economic, technological, and human-centered dimensions.
“Türkiye is a model not only because of its success in health services but also due to its commitment to sustainable and knowledge-driven growth,” said Gutierrez.
Proposed Areas of Collaboration
The ambassador proposed three strategic areas for potential cooperation between Türkiye and Venezuela:
Digital Health Integration
Venezuela is seeking to modernize its healthcare systems and views Türkiye’s experience in digital transformation—particularly in telemedicine, data systems, and hospital management—as a valuable model.Strategic Global Promotion
Both countries aim to increase visibility in the global health tourism market. Joint promotional efforts and cross-country branding could attract new markets, especially from Latin America and Eurasia.Natural-Based Cosmetic Product Development
Venezuela, rich in biodiversity, sees opportunities for collaboration in the development and export of herbal and naturally derived skincare products in collaboration with Turkish laboratories and cosmetic companies.
A Bilateral Working Group
To translate ideas into action, Ambassador Gutierrez suggested the establishment of a bilateral technical working table, which would facilitate regular communication, data exchange, and the organization of trade missions. This structure is intended to bridge the private and public sectors of both countries in a coordinated and sustainable manner.
According to the ambassador, this platform could serve as a long-term mechanism for identifying investment opportunities, navigating regulatory challenges, and developing joint projects in health-related fields.
Official Invitation to Venezuela’s Health Tourism Roundtable
One of the most significant outcomes of the meeting was Venezuela’s formal invitation to SATKOF and its member companies to participate in the International Health Tourism and Trade Roundtable Program, scheduled to take place in Venezuela next month.
This roundtable will focus on:
Investment and partnership opportunities in Venezuela’s emerging health tourism sector
Legal and regulatory frameworks for foreign participation
Joint ventures in healthcare infrastructure, training, and logistics
Market structure and consumer behavior in the Latin American region
Prof. Dr. Aysun Bay confirmed SATKOF’s attendance and welcomed the opportunity:
“We are honored to accept this invitation. SATKOF will organize a strategic delegation to attend this important program and actively contribute to shaping a mutually beneficial partnership.”
Türkiye’s Role in Global Health Tourism
Türkiye is currently ranked among the top destinations in the world for health tourism, thanks to a combination of factors:
Affordable treatment costs
High-quality medical expertise
Short waiting times
State-of-the-art hospital facilities
Multilingual healthcare professionals
The country attracts hundreds of thousands of patients annually from Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and increasingly, Latin America and Africa.
Türkiye’s key specialties in health tourism include:
Plastic and reconstructive surgery
Organ transplantation

SATKOF plays a central role in coordinating public-private cooperation, ensuring compliance with global standards, and promoting Turkish health services abroad.
A New Bridge Between Latin America and Eurasia
The Türkiye–Venezuela meeting in Ankara may signal a broader geopolitical trend: emerging economies seeking to forge South–South cooperation in areas like healthcare, education, and innovation.
As Venezuela looks to recover and diversify its economy, Türkiye presents an appealing partner with proven expertise and a shared vision for human-centered development. The integration of digital health solutions, eco-friendly production, and cross-continental branding campaigns could pave the way for a new chapter in global health diplomacy.
Cultural Exchange and Commitment
The meeting concluded with mutual appreciation, gift exchanges, and commemorative photography. Both parties reiterated their commitment to developing sustainable, strategic, and long-term cooperation in health-related industries.
As global health challenges evolve, partnerships like these not only promise economic benefit but also create space for intercultural understanding, innovation, and resilience.
