As road construction and infrastructure renewal projects intensify across Türkiye, the General Directorate of Highways (Karayolları Genel Müdürlüğü) has issued a fresh bulletin detailing critical updates on traffic flow, diversions, and partial closures across several key routes. Drivers are advised to adhere strictly to traffic signs and signals, and maintain reduced speeds in affected zones.

From İstanbul to Adana, Sinop to Antalya, multiple stretches of Türkiye’s highways are either partially closed or under controlled flow due to upper structure renovations, drainage maintenance, tunnel cleaning, and bridge construction.

Here are the latest developments and road conditions as of early August 2025:

Karayollarında 10 kritik noktada yol çalışması başladı - Timeturk

TEM Otoyolu Hendek-Akyazı Section Closure

One of the busiest arteries in Türkiye’s highway network, TEM Otoyolu is experiencing segment-by-segment closures between Hendek and Akyazı interchanges due to upper structure renovation work. Traffic has been diverted to the opposite platform, where two-way controlled passage is being implemented.

Additionally, the Ankara-bound exit from Kuzey Marmara Otoyolu TEM Akyazı Interchange is completely closed, prompting detours for long-distance travelers.

İzmir-Menemen Ring Road: Right Lane Blockage

On the 0–1 km stretch of the İzmir-Menemen Çevre Otoyolu, surface renewal works have resulted in the closure of the right and emergency lanes in the direction of Menemen. Traffic is being redirected through remaining lanes, which remain open under regulated flow.

Anadolu Otoyolu: Kaynaşlı–Düzce Lane Restrictions

The İstanbul-bound direction of the Anadolu Otoyolu between Kaynaşlı and Düzce has been shut down for surface repairs. Motorists are now using the opposite platform in both directions, with controlled access and speed limitations in place.

TAG Otoyolu Adana–Misis Closures

Between the 3rd and 7th kilometers of the TAG Otoyolu, upper layer repair work between Adana Doğu and Misis interchanges has led to the closure of the Adana-bound direction. Vehicles are being rerouted to the Osmaniye-bound lanes, with controlled two-way traffic management.

Ankara–Niğde Otoyolu Niğde-Bound Lane Reduction

In the Niğde direction, one right-hand lane has been closed due to ongoing work. Remaining lanes remain open, but traffic is regulated to ensure safety.

Sinop–Samsun Route Single-Lane Operation

Between the 54th and 61st kilometers, the Sinop–Samsun highway is undergoing surface improvements. Consequently, two-way traffic is restricted to a single lane, especially in the Sinop-bound direction. Drivers should prepare for delays and bottlenecks, particularly during peak hours.

İyidere–İkizdere Tunnel Maintenance

In the scenic Black Sea region, the Güneyce 1 and Güneyce 2 tunnels (located between km 24–28) are undergoing drainage system cleaning and repairs. Controlled passage is being enforced in both directions, with only one lane operational in each tunnel.

Konya–Karaman Road Long-Term Construction

A 20-kilometer stretch between Konya and Karaman remains under controlled access due to roadworks. The route remains open, but with speed limits, occasional stoppages, and guided transitions in place.

Keçiborlu–Burdur–Antalya Route Culvert Works

A culvert construction project between the 2nd and 3rd kilometers is disrupting traffic on this critical interregional route. Drivers are now sharing one side of the dual carriageway in both directions — prompting moderate slowdowns.

Bursa–Bilecik–Bozüyük Axis Hamsu Bridge Closure

A full closure has been imposed on the Bilecik–Bozüyük-bound direction between the 21st and 22nd kilometers, due to the construction of Hamsu Köprüsü (Hamsu Bridge). All traffic is now being rerouted through the Bozüyük–Bilecik-bound lanes, which are accommodating two-way controlled flow.

Safety and Travel Advice

Motorists planning long-distance or intercity travel in Türkiye over the coming weeks should:

  • Check real-time road condition updates from the General Directorate of Highways

  • Allow extra travel time for expected delays

  • Obey all warning signs, cones, and flaggers at construction zones

  • Maintain low speeds in narrowed or alternating-flow lanes

  • Consider using alternative routes or regional bypasses when available

While these infrastructure improvements are crucial for long-term safety and road quality, they currently pose significant disruptions to peak travel flows across the country.

Travelers are urged to remain vigilant, patient, and informed as Türkiye modernizes its road network — one kilometer at a time.
