Consecutive Storm Alerts Announced for Istanbul by Meteorology

According to the latest forecast from the Turkish State Meteorological Service, scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected to affect large parts of northern and western Türkiye, while eastern and central regions will continue to experience above-average temperatures.

Partly to heavily cloudy skies will dominate in regions including the northern and western parts of the country and the Mediterranean coastline. The forecast indicates localized showers and thunderstorms in areas such as:

  • Eastern Marmara

  • Kütahya

  • Inland İzmir

  • Northern Aydın

  • Western Antalya

  • Western Kahramanmaraş

  • Coastal Hatay

  • Bolu, Zonguldak, and Düzce

  • Samsun by evening

  • Central Black Sea coastline and parts of Trabzon and Giresun at night

In contrast, the rest of the country is expected to remain mostly clear and mildly cloudy.

Heatwave Alert for Interior and Eastern Türkiye

The forecast highlights a significant rise in temperatures in inland and eastern provinces, where the mercury is expected to exceed seasonal norms. Western provinces will see more moderate conditions, with temperatures hovering near average levels.

The wind is forecast to blow mainly from the west and northwest, while the southeastern parts may see light winds from the southwest. Winds are expected to be moderate in general but could intensify to 30–50 km/h in the afternoon in provinces like Çankırı, Çorum, and Amasya.

Here’s a breakdown of expected conditions and daily high temperatures in selected cities:

  • Ankara: Partly to mostly clear, 35°C

  • İstanbul: Partly to mostly cloudy; local showers and thunderstorms in Anatolian districts during the morning, 30°C

  • İzmir: Partly to mostly cloudy; localized afternoon storms in interior districts, 32°C

  • Adana: Partly cloudy and warm, 35°C

  • Antalya: Increasing clouds through the day; afternoon storms possible in western areas, 30°C

  • Samsun: Partly cloudy becoming more overcast; evening showers and thunderstorms, 31°C

  • Trabzon: Partly clear during the day, nighttime showers and storms expected, 30°C

  • Erzurum: Mostly clear skies, 33°C

  • Diyarbakır: Clear and extremely hot, 41°C

Midweek Rain Warning from AKOM

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) issued an early weather warning for Wednesday, signaling the potential for localized heavy showers in the city.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates closely and take necessary precautions, especially in low-lying areas prone to water accumulation or flash flooding.


Five-Day Forecast Outlook

The Meteorological Service has also released its five-day weather maps, showing a continued mix of summer heat and localized thunderstorms across the country.

The northwest and coastal areas will remain most vulnerable to short but intense bursts of rain, while southeastern and eastern Türkiye will continue to bake under extreme heat.

Citizens in the affected regions are encouraged to:

  • Stay hydrated

  • Avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours

  • Monitor local alerts for thunderstorm warnings or flood advisories
