With the rise of electric vehicles, many manufacturers have taken aggressive steps to increase their market share, while Toyota has long adopted a cautious approach in this field. However, this silence now seems to be coming to an end.
The Japanese automotive giant is preparing for a strong entry into the electric vehicle arena with the launch of its bZ (beyond Zero) series’ new and most ambitious model, the Toyota bZ7.
Toyota first showcased this fully electric sedan model at the Shanghai Auto Show. The company states that the bZ7 has been specifically developed for the Chinese market and is positioned to compete with strong rivals in the premium segment, such as the Tesla Model S. Developed in collaboration with its Chinese automotive partner GAC, this model clearly demonstrates Toyota’s strategy to become more competitive in this massive market.
bZ7’s Standout Features

One of the key features of the bZ7 is its size. This sedan spans a full 5 meters in length, placing it in competition with luxury electric vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i5. Designed with a focus on interior space and comfort, the vehicle aims to meet the expectations of Chinese consumers.
Inside, the design is tech-centric yet minimalist. The large screen positioned at the center of the console operates with the locally popular Huawei Harmony OS, increasingly widespread in China. The screen, along with the digital display, wooden decorative touches, and ambient lighting, creates a modern atmosphere.
Additionally, the inclusion of physical buttons provides a balance between digitalization and traditional control preferences. Features like wireless charging further enhance the car’s modern appeal.
Exterior Design

The exterior features a simple yet bold design. The body is fluid and aerodynamic, somewhat resembling Toyota’s Crown Crossover model, but with sharp LED headlights and sleek details that give the bZ7 its unique character.
While the motor and battery details have not been officially disclosed, it is speculated that the bZ7 may incorporate some technologies from GAC’s 400-horsepower, dual-motor Aion LX model, suggesting a high-performance electric sedan.
The bZ5 Model
Alongside the bZ7, Toyota also introduced the bZ5 model, which is a renamed version of the existing bZ3C crossover. These two new models expand Toyota’s lineup, joining the already available bZ4X, bZ3X, and bZ3 models in China.

In short, with the Toyota bZ7, the company is not just launching a new car, but also signaling that it will be a more active player in the electric vehicle race. Its success in the Chinese market will become clearer in the coming year.
