The 2024 Turkic Economies Report, titled Enhancing Transportation and Energy Connectivity Among Turkic States, has officially been published under the auspices of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). The report marks a significant milestone in regional economic integration and reflects the growing commitment of member states to build resilient and interconnected infrastructure systems.
Türkiye played a central role in the report’s preparation through the coordination of the Directorate General of Trade Research and Risk Assessment under the Ministry of Trade. Additional contributions were provided by the Directorate General of Customs and the Directorate General of International Service Trade, with strong support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
This comprehensive report was developed within the framework of the Official Economic Research Centers Network of Turkic States (ERCNET), and aims to guide member countries toward achieving the long-term objectives set in the OTS Vision 2040.

Türkiye’s Geopolitical Advantage Reinforces Its Regional Leadership
Türkiye’s geographic location at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa provides it with an unparalleled strategic advantage. This positioning not only enhances the country’s logistical capabilities but also establishes Türkiye as a key hub for transportation, energy transit, and international trade.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Türkiye’s logistical infrastructure and export capacity have continued to expand, making it a natural regional base for goods and services. The country’s ongoing investments in railway corridors, energy pipelines, and integrated customs systems have further reinforced its role as a strategic corridor connecting East and West.
Energy and Transport: Foundations of Turkic Regional Integration
The 2024 report identifies critical pathways for deepening cooperation among Turkic states in the areas of energy and transport. It highlights both existing infrastructure and future opportunities to align national policies, standardize regulations, and invest in joint projects that can accelerate regional development.
Energy cooperation remains a key pillar of the report. With vast natural resources distributed across Central Asia and strong demand centers in Türkiye and Europe, the potential for intra-regional energy trade is enormous. The report outlines mechanisms to improve energy security, diversify supply chains, and implement cross-border electricity and gas interconnectivity initiatives.
On the transportation front, the document emphasizes the importance of multimodal networks—including roads, railways, and ports—that link the member states and improve trade facilitation. Projects such as the Middle Corridor and Trans-Caspian routes are recognized as transformative pathways that can unlock economic opportunities across the Turkic world.
TDT Vision 2040 and Türkiye’s Commitment to Regional Progress
The Turkic States’ Vision 2040 is an ambitious blueprint for economic, cultural, and political integration across the region. The newly released report contributes to this vision by offering data-driven insights and actionable recommendations for policy alignment and infrastructural cooperation.
Türkiye’s active participation reflects its broader commitment to regional unity and development. As a founding member of the Organization of Turkic States, Türkiye continues to serve as both a leader and facilitator for joint initiatives. From trade facilitation reforms to energy transit corridors, Türkiye is positioned to drive impactful progress throughout the decade.

Collaboration Across Ministries and Institutions
The report’s development was a result of unprecedented collaboration across multiple Turkish government bodies and international research organizations. Contributions from the Turkish Academy and ERCNET institutions enriched the report’s analytical depth and policy relevance.
By working together, these institutions aim to foster a data-informed approach to connectivity that balances national interests with shared goals. This model of cooperation also strengthens institutional capacities across member states, building the foundation for long-term sustainable development.
Driving Economic Synergy Through Regional Cooperation
The significance of the 2024 Turkic Economies Report lies not only in its technical findings but also in its political symbolism. At a time of growing global fragmentation and supply chain uncertainty, regional alliances offer a powerful counterbalance rooted in shared culture, language, and economic interest.
The Turkic world, with Türkiye at its center, has the capacity to create a unified economic space that spans from the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean. This interconnected framework can support everything from trade flows and energy exchange to academic mobility and digital innovation.
Conclusion: A Common Path Toward a Prosperous Future
Türkiye’s Ministry of Trade concluded its public statement by expressing gratitude to all institutions involved in the report’s creation. “This report provides important guidance for our joint efforts under the OTS umbrella. We move forward together, as the Turkic World, toward a stronger and more prosperous future.”
The message is clear: Türkiye sees its destiny as intertwined with that of its Turkic partners. Through strategic investments in connectivity and a shared commitment to cooperation, the region is poised to thrive in an increasingly complex global economy.
