Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema was welcomed in Ankara with an official ceremony during his diplomatic visit to Türkiye. The occasion marked a significant step forward in deepening political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation between the two nations.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan greeted his Gabonese counterpart on the presidential complex’s ceremonial stairs, where both leaders posed for the press against a backdrop of their respective national flags. Following this formal reception, the two presidents held a private meeting and later led an expanded session with their delegations.

During the joint press conference and signing ceremony that followed, multiple cooperation agreements were signed, signaling a new era of bilateral collaboration with long-term economic and diplomatic implications.

Strategic Partnerships in Construction, Energy, and Technology

President Erdoğan emphasized the growing economic engagement between Türkiye and Gabon. He noted that Turkish companies are actively involved in several key sectors in Gabon, particularly in construction and energy. The total value of ongoing projects by Turkish firms has now exceeded $2.5 billion.

Underlining the potential for even deeper economic ties, Erdoğan stated that Türkiye’s private sector is ready to engage in a wider range of initiatives in Gabon. These include housing, digital infrastructure, energy modernization, and mining development. He also expressed willingness to share Türkiye’s expertise in agriculture, fisheries, scientific research, and technological innovation.

Educational Collaboration and Human Capital Development

One of the pillars of Türkiye’s international engagement has been educational diplomacy, and Gabon is no exception. Erdoğan highlighted the role of the Türkiye Maarif Foundation, which currently operates educational institutions in Gabon. These schools serve nearly 700 students, with plans underway to expand capacity and establish new educational centers.

This collaboration aims to enhance human capital development in Gabon and further strengthen people-to-people connections between the two countries. Such educational initiatives are often seen as long-term investments in mutual growth and diplomatic goodwill.

Shared Stance on Global Security and Counterterrorism

Türkiye and Gabon have maintained a close alignment on matters of global security and counterterrorism. President Erdoğan commended Gabon’s firm stance against the FETÖ organization, which Ankara designates as a national security threat. Gabon remains one of the strongest supporters of Türkiye’s international campaign to dismantle FETÖ-affiliated networks, a fact Erdoğan personally acknowledged with gratitude.

A Joint Voice for Justice in Gaza

Another key topic of discussion was the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza. President Erdoğan voiced strong concerns over the civilian toll in the region, particularly the suffering of children and vulnerable populations. He emphasized that the international community must not remain silent in the face of such injustice.

Referring to the dire conditions in Gaza—where starvation, airstrikes, and indiscriminate violence continue to claim innocent lives—Erdoğan described the world’s collective patience as nearing its breaking point. He urged all nations to act with conscience and moral courage, especially in light of increasing calls for a ceasefire from various parts of Africa.

Africa’s Strong Response to the Gaza Crisis

The Turkish leader acknowledged that some of the most powerful reactions to the Israeli attacks on Gaza have come from the African continent. This includes not only public demonstrations of solidarity with the Palestinian people but also formal diplomatic statements condemning the violence.

Erdoğan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to working with African nations like Gabon in the pursuit of a just and lasting peace in the region. He highlighted the importance of equal partnerships and regional solutions to global problems, stressing the growing role of African diplomacy in global governance.

Türkiye’s Expanding Diplomatic Footprint in Africa

Türkiye’s outreach to Africa has expanded significantly in the past decade, both in scope and substance. Erdoğan revealed that the number of Turkish embassies across the continent has reached 38, making Ankara one of the most active diplomatic hubs for Africa-related foreign policy.

This robust presence reflects Türkiye’s long-term strategic interest in building comprehensive relationships with African countries, not only through trade and investment but also via educational, humanitarian, and cultural channels.

Building Lasting Peace through Collective Effort

Erdoğan emphasized that his government does not view the Gaza crisis as an opportunity for political point-scoring. Rather, it is a humanitarian concern that demands united national and international action. He called on all political actors in Türkiye to approach the issue with similar sensitivity and to refrain from divisive or uninformed rhetoric.

He stressed that true peace in the region can only be achieved through determined and sustained effort. This includes delivering tangible aid to civilians, pushing for diplomatic pressure on Israel, and advocating for the recognition of Palestinian statehood by more countries.

France and Other Global Voices Join the Call for Peace

The Turkish President also recognized recent international moves supporting Palestine. He noted the humanitarian tone emerging from several European capitals, particularly from France and the UK, and welcomed these developments. He shared that he personally congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron for taking a bold step in this direction.

Erdoğan confirmed that President Nguema expressed similar feelings during their private discussions, reinforcing the idea that Africa and Türkiye stand on common moral ground regarding the Gaza conflict. Both nations committed to amplifying diplomatic pressure on the Israeli government in the days ahead.

Business and Economic Engagement Set to Expand

The visit was not limited to diplomatic discussions. President Nguema’s itinerary also includes a series of meetings with Turkish business leaders. These engagements aim to strengthen commercial ties and explore new opportunities for mutual investment.

Erdoğan concluded his remarks by extending his warmest greetings to the people of Gabon, expressing confidence that this visit would mark the beginning of an even closer partnership between the two nations.

As the global geopolitical climate grows increasingly complex, Türkiye and Gabon are setting a noteworthy example of how nations from different continents can come together based on shared values, economic cooperation, and diplomatic mutual respect.
