Only 36 kilometers from Antalya city center and 13 kilometers from Kemer, Göynük Canyon stands as one of the region’s most striking natural attractions. Surrounded by steep cliffs, cascading waterfalls, shimmering pools and lush pine forests, the canyon stretches for 4.5 kilometers and forms a breathtaking part of the world-famous Lycian Way. Covering nearly 3,000 acres, it combines cream and gray-toned rocks with emerald green waters, offering both a visual feast and an escape from city life.

A Summer Refuge with Natural Pools

During the scorching Mediterranean summers, when temperatures in Antalya can reach 46–47 degrees Celsius, Göynük Canyon provides welcome relief with natural pools fed by cool mountain streams. The water temperature hovers around 15–16 degrees, offering visitors the chance to refresh themselves in crystal-clear waters that act as natural swimming pools.

Visitors are drawn not only by the scenery but also by the sense of serenity. Hidden pools tucked between rock formations make the canyon ideal for those seeking a peaceful dip away from crowded beaches.

Adventure Activities for Every Taste

Beyond its tranquil beauty, Göynük Canyon is also an adventure hub, catering to thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike. According to site manager Cevdet Yavuz, the canyon offers a wide range of activities including:

  • Rafting and body rafting: Visitors are equipped with helmets, life jackets and safety gear before braving the streams.

  • Trekking and hiking: Trails allow for exploration of the canyon’s diverse terrain.

  • Zipline: A popular highlight featuring two stages, the zipline begins at 5 meters and rises to 40 meters in height. Participants cross a suspension bridge before completing the second stage, with spectacular views throughout.

  • Boat tours: For those who prefer not to swim, a 25-minute boat ride through the canyon provides an alternative way to admire its unique landscapes.

Plans are also underway to expand the adventure offerings. Yavuz revealed that a new one-kilometer zipline is currently in development, set to open next year, designed specifically for adrenaline enthusiasts.

Visitor Experience and Access

Entrance to Göynük Canyon is priced at 60 TL, though access is free for Göynük residents and individuals with disabilities. Upon entry, visitors walk approximately 500 meters to reach transfer vehicles that take them to the activity zones.

On peak days, particularly weekends, the canyon welcomes over 2,000 guests, while on weekdays the number averages around 1,600. Despite the heavy footfall, the management emphasizes safety and environmental responsibility.

Protecting Nature and Raising Awareness

Yavuz stresses the importance of visitor responsibility in preserving the canyon’s pristine environment. He reminds guests that Göynük is designated as a day-use recreational area, meaning outside food, drinks and barbecues are prohibited.

Because the canyon is surrounded by dense pine forests, the risk of wildfires is significant. Visitors are urged to act responsibly, dispose of waste properly and avoid any behavior that could endanger the natural environment.

Editorial Note

Göynük Canyon offers the perfect blend of adventure, relaxation and natural beauty. Its striking landscapes and wide range of activities make it one of Antalya’s most attractive destinations for both locals and international tourists. Yet, its sustainability depends heavily on environmental awareness. For those seeking a refreshing escape, adrenaline-fueled experiences or a family day in nature, Göynük Canyon remains a gem that deserves both enjoyment and protection.
