A transformative initiative is taking root in Mersin, Türkiye, as the Girişimci İş Kadınları Derneği (Women Entrepreneurs Association) launches its newest project, Girişimci Kadınlar Limanı—a structured platform designed to empower women between the ages of 18 and 45 in entrepreneurship, production, and trade.
Backed by the Ministry of Interior and coordinated by the Mersin Governorship’s Directorate of Civil Society Relations, the project was developed in partnership with Mersin University’s Girişim Limanı (Entrepreneurship Harbor), a hub known for its support of regional innovation.

From Local Collaboration to National Inspiration
Announcing the project, Association Chair Mürvet Beydağı emphasized its mission: “For years, we’ve been working to increase women’s presence and power in entrepreneurship and commerce. With Girişimci Kadınlar Limanı, we’re turning that vision into structured impact.”
This newly accepted proposal aims to support women across multiple dimensions of the entrepreneurial journey—from skills development and business planning to digital outreach and legal compliance.
Reaching 200 Women, Mentoring 50 Future Founders
Project Coordinator and industrial engineer Hatice Aydın provided a breakdown of the project roadmap. “Our goal is to reach 200 aspiring women entrepreneurs, and to provide direct mentoring support to 50 of them,” Aydın said.
The program begins with an intensive three-month entrepreneurship training period. Sessions will cover:
Business plan preparation
Financial literacy
Digital marketing
Legal and regulatory compliance
Following this, participants will enter a three-month mentoring phase, where they’ll receive personalized guidance from professionals in various sectors.

Why It Matters: Gender, Region, and Economic Inclusion
Mersin, with its port access, growing tech scene, and dynamic university environment, is a strategic location for a project of this scale. Yet like many regions in Türkiye, it faces persistent gender imbalances in business ownership and leadership.
This initiative targets that gap by focusing on practical skill-building and strategic empowerment. Rather than offering one-off workshops or symbolic support, Girişimci Kadınlar Limanı builds a structured and measurable pipeline for success—especially for women who may not have previously considered entrepreneurship as an accessible path.
From Skills to Scale: Creating Long-Term Impact
The mentorship aspect of the program is particularly noteworthy. By pairing participants with mentors from various industries, the project ensures not only technical skill-building but also real-world insight and network expansion. This personalized support model has proven to increase entrepreneurial success rates, especially among first-time founders.
Moreover, the inclusion of financial literacy and digital marketing topics indicates a forward-looking approach. As Türkiye’s economy becomes more digitized and competitive, women-led businesses must be equipped not just to launch—but to scale.
A Model That Can Be Replicated Across Türkiye
Though the project is regionally anchored in Mersin, its framework has the potential to inspire similar models across Türkiye. The collaboration between civil society, government, and academia presents a replicable blueprint for community-level economic inclusion.
More importantly, the project responds to a national and global need: increasing the number of women who not only participate in the economy, but who shape and lead it.
Voices of Change Are Rising
As the first training sessions near launch, organizers hope to not only deliver outcomes, but also shift cultural perceptions around women and business. For many participants, this project may represent their first step toward financial independence, leadership, and social mobility.
For Mersin—and perhaps eventually for other provinces—Girişimci Kadınlar Limanı is more than just a program. It’s a statement that Türkiye’s women are ready to lead, and that the right support can turn ambition into sustainable impact.
